Frank Warren Statement

Posted on 22 May 2013 in Press Releases
I make this statement in relation to the outrageous and defamatory statements which have been made about me by Deontay Wilder. On 9 May I announced the Wilder v Chisora fight, which was to take place on Saturday 15th June at Wembley Arena. There was a deal reached with Wilder's representative, Eric Gomez, and my matchmaker Dean Powell for that fight to take place.
Big-hitting heavyweight Dereck Chisora will now headline a multi-title show at Wembley Arena on Saturday 20th July after promoter Frank Warren announced today that he has rescheduled the show from Saturday 15th June.
The purse offer for the highly anticipated British Middleweight title showdown between champion Billy Joe Saunders and John Ryder was won by Andy Ayling on behalf of Queensberry Promotions at the British Boxing Board of Control's Cardiff headquarters earlier today.
Capturing a world title overseas, particularly across in the US, is just about the ultimate achievement for a British boxer. The list of those who've triumphed Stateside since the Second World War remains in single figures; Alan Minter, Cornelius Boza Edwards, Lloyd Honeyghan, Dennis Andries, Nigel Benn, Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe comprise the elite band who've turned the trick.
WBA World Heavyweight czar Alexander Povetkin walks the tightrope this evening when he puts his belt on the line against unbeaten Pole Andrzej Wawrzyk at the Crocus City Hall, Moscow.
Any confusion as to the rightful tenant to the WBA World Cruiserweight throne should get straightened out this evening when reigning incumbent Denis Lebedev squares off with 'champion in recess' Guillermo Jones of Panama at the 7,000 Crocus City Hall in Myakinino, Moscow.
Panamanian assassin Ammeth Diaz says he will emulate fellow countryman and all-time great Roberto Duran and go on to win a World title if he beats Brit Martin Gethin. Diaz takes on Gethin at Walsall Town Hall on Friday 31st May in an IBF World Lightweight Title Eliminator with the winner getting a shot at reigning champion Miguel Vazquez.
Paul Butler's promoter Frank Warren says the Ellesmere Port sensation will become the next big star of British boxing following in the footsteps of Ricky Hatton and Naseem Hamed. Butler, the British and Commonwealth Super-Flyweight Champion, returns to action on Saturday 15th June at Wembley Arena where he aims to win his third title when he challenges for the Vacant WBO International title, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).
Floyd Mayweather Jnr's virtuoso victory over Robert Guerrero last weekend strengthened the case for him to be considered among the finest 'pound-for-pound' boxers since the Second World War.
