American Gervonta Davis defended his IBF Super-Featherweight World Title by stopping Britain’s Liam Walsh in round three at London’s Copper Box Arena, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

After two cagey opening rounds, Davis landed a series of heavy shots that dropped Walsh to the canvas.

Walsh, 31, got to his feet but another hard left from Davis, 22, saw referee Michael Alexander step in after two minutes and eleven seconds of round three.

Walsh protested it was called off too soon, saying: “That was a bad stoppage. He’s very fast but while I’m not saying the result would have been different at least give me a chance. In England we have this thing in stopping fights too soon.”

Davis said: “I think he was hurt pretty bad, the referee did his job. It was just a matter of time before I got him. I used my boxing IQ tonight and picked my shots. When I connected I got him out of there. I’m still on the rise. I became a champion super-fast.”
